Just a quick reminder that the Gold DofE training walk is this Saturday. As outlined previously, anyone wishing to take part in the expeditions *must* attend the training walk and should be at the squadron at 08.30. We will be travelling to the Peak District and hope to return to the squadron at approximately 16.00. However, as ever the timings will depend on how quickly we complete the route and you will be calling your parents when we leave the Peak District to let them know your actual ETA.
*Do not* forget to hand your medical health form in as soon as possible. On the day please ensure that you wear sensible walking clothes and *boots* for the walk. This is a day walk so please bring the following items with you in a day sack (with waterproof liner):
– Waterproof Jacket and Trousers – Hat & Gloves – First Aid kit – Survival Bag – Map Case – Compass – Whistle – 1 to 2 litres of Water – Lunch – Snacks
Its too early to totally predict the weather but the Peak District can be a very cold and wet place this time of year so it is very important that you are prepared for it. In addition, this is the same area where you will be undertaking your practice expedition so the staff need to be happy that you are ready to go solo (as a group of course) in this terrain.
Part of your prep for this walk should be to know what the weather is likely to do on saturday and think about how this could affect the walk.
If you need to hire or purchase any equipment please complete the hire form (which is on the website) and return it to the squadron before first parade on Friday so that we have time to get it ready for you.
*NOTE – Don’t forget that you will need to finish the route planning you started at the training day before you attend the training walk so that you can get the most out of the training. This is your responsibility but there may be some opportunity to do this on Fridays parade night.*
Finally if you are still outstanding menu plans please ensure that you give them to FS Hensby before the training walk.
In addition, if you have not yet paid your outstanding balance you will need to do so by the end of next week.
Please do not hesitate to speak to me or any of the other D of E staff if you have any questions.
