1960 – 1969

In 1960 the Squadron celebrated its 21st birthday under the commanding officer Flt Lt V Finney. June 1960 saw the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme introduced into the syllabus and the new cedar wood building was officially opened. It cost £2,500 to build. The old hut and house were demolished.

In 1964 Northwich Squadron took over Knutsford Detached Flight (DF) formerly held by 391 (Wilmslow) Squadron. The DF was in imminent danger of being closed down, but prospered under 146’s guidance and subsequently went on to become a Squadron in its own right.

The Squadron Band was reformed in January 1965 with instruction by ex-cadet Stelfox.

The 60’s saw many cadets and some officers undertaking Overseas Camps and it was at this time that Flt Lt Finney handed over command of the Squadron to Flt Lt R Beckett.
